Best Cafés in Bir

Welcome to my India Travel Diaries, a series of personal posts about my travels through India. Everything written here, including recommendations, are based on my experiences and are by no means meant to be a comprehensive city guide.

It’s the most popular place in India to go paragliding, but did you know it also has a buzzing café scene? Whether you need a break in between flying or visiting the many monasteries in the area, here’s a list of the best cafés in Bir

After visiting Dharamshala and attending HH the Dalai Lama’s lectures, I headed to Bir, Himachal Pradesh. Bir is a small village about two hours south from Dharamshala. People come from all over the world to go paragliding here.

I didn’t have the guts to try paragliding on this visit, but I did spend a lot of time walking around and spending my days at the many café’s Bir has to offer. It’s a picturesque, peaceful village, with many monasteries, stunning nature, and some excellent cafés full of healthy, organic food!

Make sure to check out some of these on your next visit!

Bhoomi Café
Bhoomi Café was the most recommended to me by the locals and it didn’t disappoint! It’s located off the main road of Bir, close to the Peme Awam Choegar Gyurume Ling Monastery. The aesthetic and ambience of this café is peaceful and they serve up some delicious vegetarian and vegan food! They also have a bakery where you can get desserts and sourdough bread! I had a simple vegetarian sandwich with fries and a rich chocolate vegan brownie on my visit, but they also have a wide selection of Japanese food as well.  It’s a popular place that can get quite busy, but definitely worth a visit!

Café Cloud Door

Best pizza in Bir! The pizza that I’ve tried in India can be very hit and miss (mostly a miss). So, to my surprise, I loved the pizza at Café Cloud Door. It reminded me of the pizza that I can get ‘back home’ in Canada. Crunchy crust, tomato sauce, and mozzarella cheese - a pretty standard pie. They also have a wide variety of other woodfire baked pizzas and pasta as well which come with a good portion which is more than enough for one person!

Garden Café

I liked this place because of the outdoor seating nestled in greenery and the healthy food options. I had this Muesli fruit bowl, which was fresh and juicy.

Five Elements Café

If you’re looking for some home cooked, organic, healthy Indian food, then definitely check out Five Elements Café. Located inside Mandala Sanctuary Hotel Resort, the owner Parth has put a lot of love into making this beautiful sanctuary for his guests and you can tell by the delicious food that is served here! The Punjabi in me loved the daal and roti that I ate here.

Silver Linings Café

Silver Linings Cafe is a popular spot with the paragliders, since it’s closer to the main landing point in Bir. I loved the outdoor seating here with the wooden benches and tables. The French toast with fruit that I had was pretty similar to the ones I’ve had in Canada. They also have a great selection of drinks like lattes and cappuccinos and freshly pressed coffee.
